Advanced EMT Initial

This is a hybrid and asynchronous course that lasts approximately 20 weeks. You will be required to complete class via an interactive online classroom and there will be online activities, including live online meetings.

Description

The Asynchronous Advanced is the next certification level above EMT Basic. This program prepares the candidate to provide more advance level care to victims of trauma and airway compromise as well as providing the student with more in-depth patient assessment skills. Skills taught in this program include IV therapy, basic ECG recognition, IO administration and medication administration.

 

South Carolina State certification will be awarded, by the Department of Public Health, to those graduates who successfully complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians computer-based written examination, which is the exit/certification examination for all South Carolina initial EMT, AEMT and NRP courses.

 

Entrance Requirements

  • Current NREMT-Basic (copy must be provided)
  • Current SCEMT-B (copy must be provided)
  • High School Diploma or GED (copy must be provided)
  • SLED Catch (copy must be provided)
  • Eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last class
  • Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to Appendix A: Americans with Disabilities Act, Attachment 1: Functional Position Description, for description of all essential duties of an EMT)
